Claire Harvey has several areas of responsibility at the Archive. As the FOIA Associate, she works closely with both the Director of Public Policy, Lauren Harper, and the FOIA Coordinator, Wendy Valdes, on a range of activities – from developing and standardizing filing procedures to conducting research for the annual Sunshine Week audit to helping the IT team develop and modernize its internal FOIA systems. She assists Lauren on both the Afghanistan and open government projects, including but not limited to drafting hundreds of FOIA requests and carrying out research. In addition, she contributes to the Production Unit by processing declassified materials for inclusion in the Digital National Security Archive series.
Claire received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College, where she was a recipient of the 2017 Courage To Be Fellowship from the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities. Prior to joining the Archive, she taught English writing and worked as a journalist for Urbanist Hanoi in Hanoi, Vietnam.
