Wendy Valdes is the FOIA Coordinator for the National Security Archive. In this role, she is responsible for both overseeing the Archive’s Freedom of Information Act and Mandatory Declassification Review request strategies, as well as modernizing and streamlining the Archive’s internal requesting system of nearly 70,000 requests and appeals. In addition to the day-to-day records management, Valdes provides FOIA and database trainings for interns, research associates, and analysts, and acts as a liaison with federal agencies on FOIA matters.
Valdes is also the Project Coordinator for the Torture Archive, an online institutional repository for documents related to the detention and interrogation of detainees during the war on terror. She has also worked as Production Editor for Publications working with the indexing staff preparing content for DNSA sets.
She also serves as the official training coach for the staffs’ annual participation in the Capitol Hill Classic 10k road race.
Before coming to the Archive, Valdes earned a Master’s degree in Ethics, Peace, and Global Affairs from American University’s School of International Service, and a B.A. in History and French from Pacific Union College
